INDIA : Sustainability and Environment are part of Indian Culture

India is playing its role by focusing on the basics like Housing for All , Swachh Bharat Abhiyan , and Infrastructure projects and including farmers and rural India in its economic progress through Digital India program.

True development is one which does not rob future generations of resources they will need to meet their requirements.

Addressing the United Nations General Assembly during International Conference on Rule of Law for supporting 2030 Development Agenda, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that ‘India has always believed in Sustainability. For us, the Law of Nature holds great value.’

To achieve sustainability, we need to work collectively and find ways to live in harmony with the Nature.

Our forefathers have already done so. Indian culture emphasizes on worshipping elements of Nature as gods – be it Sun, Moon, Land, Trees, Rains, Rivers, Air or Fire. Indian mythology often associates gods and goddesses with particular trees, animals or birds. Love and respect for Nature and hence, environmental protect is an inherent part of Indian lifestyle.

However, to achieve the goals of inclusive and sustainable development, it is important that there is no conflict in legal and social frameworks. A balanced approach is required to achieve climate justice across the globe as every country has its own challenges and same set of rules cannot apply for everybody. We need to make sure that all stakeholders are able to benefit from them.

Indian government has made poverty eradication its priority and linked it with environmental protection. It is trying to seek balance between ‘ideal ecology’ and ‘ideal economy’.

The 2030 Development Agenda recognizes that economic growth, industrialization, infrastructure, and access to energy are the primary components of development but we need to be vigilant about sustainable consumption and climate change. It also highlights Blue Revolution which is about sustainable use of marine wealth and ocean ecosystem and taking care of the blue skies.
